Grant money allows Grant County Fire District 3 to hire two new firefighters

Thanks to some grant funding, Grant County Fire District 3 will beef up its firefighting force by the start of next year. District 3 serves the city of Quincy, Crescent Bar and the George areas. District 3 Chief Don Fortier said the $300,000 SAFER grant along with some matching funds will help the station round out its weekend staff, “we are primarily a volunteer station, it’s getting increasingly difficult to have the station adequately staffed on the weekends.

Car fire turns house fire in Maple Valley

A car fire in a driveway led to the house catching fire as well today, July 31, in the 26100 block of 221 Pl SE in Maple Valley. Maple Valley firefighters were dispatched at 11:08 a.m. to a car fire that was changed to a house fire after flames spread from the vehicle to a tree and then to the house.

Dad and 2 kids in critical condition after mobile home fire near Benton City

A father and his two kids are in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after they suffered severe injuries when their mobile home caught fire this morning near Benton City. Action News was on scene and talked to the man who helped pull the children out of the burning home. "I saw the dad inside the house filled with flames, he was on fire," said Luis Madrigal, a witness at the scene.

Wildfires Crews work to contain wildfire in Darrington

Crews worked Monday to contain a wildfire in Snohomish Country. Officials said 10 engines, seven crews and two helicopters were assigned to the steep slopes near Suiattle River Rd. in Darrington where the 70-acre fire was burning. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Wildfires near Sullivan Lake continue to grow

Two northeastern Washington wildfires continue to grow and block recreation because of the Noisy Creek Fire on Hall Mountain area east of Sullivan Lake and the North Fork Hughes Fire in a portion of the Shedroof Divide in the Salmo-Priest Wilderness. The Colville National Forest has closed Forest Road 22/2220 from East Sullivan Campround to Pass Creek Pass, blocking access to the Shedroof Divide in the Salmo.
