A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson after Tacoma police said he started a fire at a home with his wife and two children inside.
Police said the 47-year-old man threw a container full of gas at a front window of a house in the 4000 block of South Warner Street about 10:15 p.

A fire is burning in the Pasayten wilderness in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest about 18 miles north of Mazama.
It has grown to 100 acres since this morning and is continuing to spread to the east/southeast, said the United States Forest Service. Eight smokejumpers were deployed this morning from the North Cascades Smokejumper Base to suppress the fire.

Firefighters were expected to work into the night Thursday to contain a 5,000-acre fire burning in the Army’s sprawling Yakima Training Center.
The fire — on the east side of the training center near the Columbia River — started Wednesday evening. Firefighters have contained the north end, but as of Thursday afternoon only 10 percent of the south side was contained, according to an Army news release.

After nearly a year of work, Grant County Fire District 5’s newest water tender is on the road for fire season.
The former propane truck, one of two chassis the district purchased for about $70,000 from Canada, was built by district personnel, not only allowing the district to save money, but giving them the ability to customize the tender with equipment they know works for wildfires in the area.

It's been burning for nearly a week, and we learned today that the fire on Bateman Island is racking up a hefty bill.
We can't give you an exact number, but Richland Fire Chief Tom Huntington estimates fighting this fire has cost close to $100,000. But unlike most wildfires that are funded by state or federal agencies, because Bateman Island is part of Richland city property, the bill for this fire is falling on the city's lap.
