Fire investigators unsure how Tuesday's Kennewick fire started

A fire today in Kennewick burned through a property, destroying everything in its path. Reporter Rex Carlin learned that the fire started in some bushes, then the winds spread the fire to nearby sheds and two cars, completely destroying them. It happened on the 3900 block of W. 12th Avenue around 11:00 a.

Survivor questions lack of surf rescue team in Ocean Shores

The fact that Ocean Shores had “decommissioned” its surf rescue team as a cost-saving item in the 2013 city budget never occurred to Jim Brannan as he clung to his overturned boat north of Damon Point for nearly an hour, watching responding police and firefighters arrive on the shore. “The public doesn’t know,” Brannan said Monday night after he went to the City Council to tell of his June 6 ordeal and question why no one would — or could — do more than shoot a lifeline toward him to help pull him ashore.

Man escapes as fire destroys mobile home in Federal Way

A mobile home went up in flames overnight in Federal Way - and firefighters are still trying to figure out how it happened. Crews responded to the scene, along South 272nd Street, after receiving reports of smoke and flames issuing from the residence. When firefighters arrived, the man living inside the mobile home was out safe but needed treatment for smoke inhalation.

New Fire Marshal serves City of Battle Ground

Fire District 3 Chief Steve Wrightson introduced newly hired Fire Marshal Chris Drone at a recent Battle Ground City Council meeting. The city contracts with Fire District 3 for fire and emergency response services and shares the cost of the new Fire Marshal position. Fire Marshal Drone will work with the city’s Community Development Department to provide professional and technical services in the field of fire prevention, investigation, public education, plan review, inspections, and fire/building code enforcement.

Strong winds, power lines spark small brush fire near Chelan

A small brush fire knocked out power to hundreds of customers near the city of Chelan, Monday night. According to Chelan County PUD, strong winds pushed some power lines together, sparking a 2-alarm fire. It's burning near the intersection of Highway 97A and Apple Acres Road. Lake Chelan fire officials said early Tuesday morning that the fire has been contained at about 72 acres.
