One person escapes Tacoma house fire

One person escaped a burning home during an early morning fire in northeast Tacoma Thursday. Flames were shooting from the side of the home in the 5000 block of 40th Street Northeast at 2:40 a.m. Firefighters quickly put out the flames and kept the fire from spreading to the garage, saving a classic car from damage.

Chief Marler returns to San Juan Island to spend his final days

Many of the volunteer firefighters, retired firefighters, and staff of San Juan Island Fire and Rescue were at the Island Air hanger to welcome home their Chief at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26. San Juan Island Fire Chief Steve Marler was hospitalized in December and has been on medical leave for the last several weeks.

Seattle fire chief won't return to The Jungle without police backup

In the wake of a fatal shooting in South Seattle, the chief of the fire department won't let his firefighters and medics enter homeless encampments unless they have police to back them up. "Last night, after the shooting, I issued a directive to the Seattle Fire Department that we are not going in these areas unless we have Seattle Police Department there to support us, for a fire call or a medical calls, because we know what's in there," said Seattle Fire Chief Harold Scoggins.
