Firefighters already provide lifesaving services to people in Volusia County. Now, they're adding another service: scanning for microchips when people find pets they believe are lost. The county’s animal services and fire department have launched a program to train firefighters in the use of microchip scanners.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in north Spokane Sunday afternoon that left two people dead and others injured. Spokane Fire received a call about an explosion at E. Nebraska Ave. and N. Perry St. They saw a house engulfed in flames as well as two cars on fire when they arrived. Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said two people have died, one was a man and the other was a 17-year-old girl.

The large fire that broke out Saturday at a Puyallup cold storage facility was still smoldering more than a day after it started. The 3-alarm commercial fire started Saturday around 5:20 a.m. and prompted evacuations in the area due to concerns of toxic fumes. Residents in a one-mile radius of the facility were advised to shelter in place Sunday afternoon.
