The Raritan Township Fire Company is raising funds to restore its gear and station after the remnants of Hurricane Ida deluged the building with flooding and water damage, rendering it uninhabitable for a few months.
The storm inflicted damage on the whole station, including the firefighters’ wooden gear lockers, walls, kitchen, generator, bay doors, and other pieces of equipment, said Chief Keith Paradiso.

A woman died in a Vancouver house fire early Saturday morning, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a house fire at 14808 Northeast 83rd Street at 2:20 a.m. When they arrived at the two-story home, they found flames coming out out the first floor. Crews rushed into the house to put out the fire and search for a reported occupant.

As of Sunday morning, the Schneider Springs fire has burned more than 107,000 acres. Crews have now reached 43 percent containment.
The incident management team says they're expecting cooler and wetter weather to come through this evening. Fire officials say conditions will likely support efforts to connect and reinforce containment lines along 1706 Road near Edgar Rock across to American Ridge and down to the American River, as well as along the 410 corridor near Cliffdell.

Women in Fire announced Sunday that the International Women in Fire Conference will take place in Spokane.
After the initial delay due to COVID-19, Women in Fire plan to host this event that has been three years in the making on Sep. 28th through Oct. 1st. This will be the first time the Women in Fire conference has been held in the Pacific Northwest.

Spokane firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in a historic downtown church on Sunday afternoon.
Ladders were called in to help put out a fire at 518 W. Third Ave., the current site of the New Community Church. The brick building, completed in 1907, was the former home of the old Central United Methodist Church until 2017.
