Abandoned Yakima nursing home burns for third time

For the third time in eight days, firefighters from the Yakima Fire Department responded to a blaze at an abandoned nursing home. The latest fire was reported at 2:30 a.m. Thursday at 115 N. 10th St., according to Yakima Fire Department Chief Aaron Markham. “This one didn’t really amount to much,” Markham said.

Pasco firefighter wants to curb divorce rates for first responders

Work can be stressful and can sometime have a negative impact on marriage. One line of work in particular has a higher divorce rate when compared the the average in Washington state. First responders put their lives on the line every day they go to work. According to statistics, they also put their marriage on the line.

Blaine city council votes to update fee schedule for fire marshal services

Blaine city councilmembers recently voted 5-0 to update the “Building” portion of the city’s Unified Fee Schedule, which lists fees that are charged to property owners for fire marshal services that are provided by Whatcom County Fire District 21. At their January 27 public meeting, councilmembers voted to approve Resolution 1788-20 updating the Unified Fee Schedule to add fees for the fire marshal services of Whatcom County Fire District 21.

2 firefighters injured while fighting massive 4-alarm fire in South Boston

VIDEOS: Boston firefighters battled a 4-alarm fire in the city’s South Boston neighborhood, and spent most of the evening working to put out remaining hotspots. The fire started in the basement of an unoccupied building that is being renovated on East 7th Street shortly after 5 p.m., and quickly spread to the floors above as well as an attached building that was occupied, Boston Fire officials said.

New foam testing device at airport fire department in California protects environment

VIDEO: The Santa Maria Airport just purchased new equipment that allows the fire department to test its fire-fighting foam, while protecting the environment. The device meets a new FAA regulation regarding foam testing for the airport fire department. It's called NoFoam System. The device is used to test the concentration of water versus foam.
