Agencies in Illinois county seek ‘more bang for our buck’ through consolidation of 911 services

Emergency dispatch centers in Lake County are studying ways to consolidate or share the same equipment, personnel and policies to provide better service and increase efficiencies for residents and visitors. Since 2013, Lake County, through the Lake County Emergency Telephone System Board, has studied whether consolidating more than a dozen independent primary and secondary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or dispatch centers in Lake County could enhance 911 service, according to Jim Hawkins, a deputy county administrator who also serves as 911 consolidation planning project manager.

Judge: Kansas city cannot unilaterally withdraw from fire district

The city of Lansing cannot unilaterally withdraw from Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1 by terminating an interlocal agreement. That is according to a ruling issued last week by Leavenworth County District Judge David King. The judge also ruled that a termination of an interlocal agreement cannot be used to require the apportionment of all of a fire district’s property.

New tax proposed to protect Washington from looming wildfire crisis

State Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz says a new tax is needed to help protect Washington during the upcoming wildfire season. But the plan is getting a cold reception from Republicans at the state Legislature. “Washington state has a wildfire crisis,” Franz said, standing in front of fire trucks and helicopters in Tumwater.

Deadly SeaTac apartment fire displaces 18 residents

One person was found dead and more than a dozen are displaced after a fire ripped through an apartment building in SeaTac early Saturday morning. Firefighters were called to the 20000 block of 30th Ave. South just before 6:30 a.m. to find flames coming through the roof, according to Puget Sound Fire officials.

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue Invites Community to Breakfast

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue is hosting the 20th annual Pancake Breakfast this Saturday from 8-11 at the Lake Wenatchee Rec Club. Tickets for the breakfast are $5. “It’s an opportunity to get community members together to socialize before the holidays,” said Chief Mick Lamar. “It’s a fundraiser for our auxiliary and in turn, they donate money to the Firefighters Association where they buy rescue equipment, training equipment, personal protective equipment.
