More than 30 firefighters battled a blaze Saturday afternoon that damaged one home and threatened several others northwest of Selah.
Fire officials responded about 2 p.m. to reports of a house on fire in the 17200 block of North Wenas Road.
Arriving firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes and were able to save most of the wooded area surrounding the house, Incident Commander Joshua Redtfeldt said.

Members of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Fire District 1, Benton County Sheriff Foundation and community volunteers joined together to hand out smoke alarms Saturday at the Metz Mobile Home Park in Kennewick.
They provided homes with smoke alarms and replacement batteries.
So far, they've handed out just under 500 smoke alarms.

Pink Patches Are Back! Both the Pasco Police Department and the Pasco Fire Departments are raising money for the Tri-Cities Cancer Center and Kadlec Oncology Department with the Pink Patch Project.
We are releasing our 2019 Pink Patch Project patch with a gold ribbon supporting pediatric cancer and pink ribbon supporting breast cancer.

There was a milestone for the FDNY Wednesday.
It promoted 80 members of the department, including the first African American to make deputy chief in 30 years.
Malcolm Moore is one of 12 battalion chiefs promoted to deputy chief at a ceremony in Brooklyn.
Moore is a 22 year veteran with the fire department, serving as chief of special operations command at rescue battalion.

On a recent night when an earthquake rattled York County, prompting calls to 911, Dover Township firefighters overheard dispatchers sending police to a reported house explosion with fire in their coverage area.
Nine volunteers at the firehouse jumped up, put on their gear and figured out what equipment they needed.
