Oklahoma offers safety app that lets students contact first-responders and school officials simultaneously during emergencies

A new phone app will allow students in Oklahoma to alert first-responders and school officials at the same time during emergencies. State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister announced the arrival of the Rave Panic App in Oklahoma during a news conference at Norman North High School on Wednesday. When activated, the app sends critical data such as students’ locations and school floor plans to 911 and first-responders, allowing them to respond more quickly and more effectively to emergencies.

Illinois police and fire chiefs challenge report stating departments may be overstaffed

Oak Brook’s police and fire chiefs explained Tuesday that the village’s daytime population doesn’t directly impact their determinations of staffing needs, comments that came after a preliminary report from a village committee questioned the number that has been used for several years. The report, from Oak Brook’s Long-Term Strategic Planning Advisory Committee, contends that village staffing levels may be based on a mistaken daytime population that has been greatly overstated.

South Carolina: Deputies announce arrest in 1996 arson at Macedonia High School

Berkeley County’s sheriff says a man who was a junior at Macedonia High School has been charged in the burning of the school 23 years after the night it burned down. Daniel Scott Harris, 40, is charged with second-degree arson and second-degree burglary, Sheriff Duane Lewis said. Harris was arrested Tuesday night.

Cowlitz 2 Battalion Chief Mike Zainfeld memorial service details announced

A memorial service for Cowlitz 2 Battalion Chief Mike Zainfeld will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 1 at at New Life Fellowship Church at 2441 42 Ave. in Longview, according to a Cowlitz 2 press release issued Tuesday. Zainfeld, a 25-year veteran of Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, took his own life on Sept. 19 after battling a job-related injury incurred by occupational stress, according to the agency.

Yakima Air Terminal receives one million dollars for fire vehicle

Yakima Air Terminal will be getting one million dollars from the Federal Aviation Administration's, airport improvement program. This money will go towards a new aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle. "This piece of equipment is specifically required to respond within three minutes of any type of aircraft accident, " said Robert Peterson, airport director for Yakima Air Terminal.
