There’s about to be a new fire chief in town.
Tacoma Fire Chief Jim Duggan is set to retire this month after seven years at the helm, and the City Council has selected his replacement.
Deputy Fire Chief Toryono Green is expected to be approved for the post at Tuesday’s council meeting. “He knows the issues the department is facing and has the courage and skills to lead the department to its amazing potential,” City Manager Elizabeth Pauli said.

Western Washington has a more than normal risk for wildland fires in the next few months according to a recent government report.
The Northwest Interagency Coordination Center released its Climate and Significant Fire Potential Outlook April 1 which showed that through July Clark County was included in an area with “above normal” wildland fire potential.

The city of Battle Ground is asking residents for input as it contemplates its future of fire protection, potentially putting a vote to the people for annexation into the department it currently contracts with.
Residents received survey letters in their mail last week and have until April 26 to voice their opinion.

Many onlookers pulled out their phones and snapped pictures as flames roared through the roof of the North End Pavilion on the Ocean Grove boardwalk Saturday.
But some were firefighters, and they posed for selfies or group photos - some as flames continued to shoot from the historic building that was recently refurbished after surviving Superstorm Sandy.

Recently diagnosed with post-traumatic stress, Sacramento firefighter Joshua Katz isn’t ready to give up on what he calls a ‘dream job.’
He still loves his “fire family,” exciting workdays and having a job that lets him help others. He’d rather take time off to treat his post-traumatic stress with financial support from workers’ compensation than allow his injury to cause an early end to his career.
