Fire burns Port Townsend home

No one was injured when a modular home erupted in flames in the 500 block of Hidden Trails Road. The Tuesday blaze was discovered by a friend of the owner who arrived on scene to care for animals at the residence, according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue. She noticed fire and smoke and called 9-1-1 and firefighters were called to the flames at 2:43 p.

Montesano crew picks firefighter of the year

Volunteer firefighter and EMT Zale Carter has been selected as the Montesano firefighter of the year. His peers at the Montesano Fire Department voted to present him with the honor. There are six paid staff members and 37 volunteers with the MFD. “It is the greatest honor I could ever imagine,” the Elma native said in an email.

Fire destroys home in Port Angeles

The Port Angeles Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire Wednesday night that destroyed a house, killed several pets and left a couple without a home. “It was rolling, heaving fire conditions out the front door and the front two windows,” said Capt. Jamie Mason. “We started a defensive attack from the outside, transitioned inside and did a primary and secondary search where we found several deceased animals but no humans.

Mayor Makes Historic Selection For New San Francisco Fire Chief

VIDEO: Mayor London Breed announced Wednesday that San Francisco Fire Deputy Chief Jeanine Nicholson would take over the duties as the new chief, the first member of the LGBT community to head the department. Nicholson, a 25-year veteran of the department, replaces retiring Joanne Hayes-White and becomes the second woman to hold the top post.

Bill to extend workers' comp to first responders with PTSI becomes law in Idaho

A bill to extend workers' compensation to first responders suffering from psychological injuries was signed into law by Gov. Brad Little on Tuesday. The law will make police, firefighters and other first responders with “clear and convincing” evidence of a work-related psychological injury eligible for worker’s compensation.
