Recently departed fire chief in Illinois was investigated for harassment

Prior to his sudden resignation last week, former Champaign fire Chief Gary Ludwig was investigated for harassment allegations made by his employees, largely involving “inappropriate statements about women or sexually explicit content.” According to documents obtained by The News-Gazette in a Freedom of Information Act request, City Manager Dorothy David conducted nine interviews between June 27 and July 5 with two victims/complainants and six witnesses concerning Ludwig, and interviewed Ludwig on July 6.

Increase in fires caused by arson in one Nevada city

VIDEO: There have been eight arson arrests already this year, and 30 fires that the Reno Fire Department said were arson. Generally, Reno Fire Department Fire Investigators arrest 10 to 13 people total for arson in a year, but with July only being a little over halfway into this year, there is cause for concern.

Firefighters fight fruit bin fire in downtown Yakima

PHOTOS: Hundreds of wooden bins piled behind a Roche Fruit warehouse caught fire Sunday night just before sunset near downtown Yakima. Follow-up: Seattle Fire Department continues to grapple with theft amid emergency responses

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) continues to deal with being the target of theft while on the job. The latest incident happened Thursday morning while Seattle firefighters were battling a large warehouse fire in the Chinatown-International District (CID) near the corner of 10th and King. Representatives with the Seattle Firefighters’ Union, IAFF Local 27, told KOMO News the attempted theft was interrupted as it was happening.

Kirkland firefighters mourn loss of battalion chief and wife

VIDEO: Kirkland firefighters said they are mourning the loss of their battalion chief and his wife after they were killed in a car crash on Friday. Firefighters described Chief Bill Hoover as a brother, mentor, leader, and friend. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with their family as they endure this tragedy,” the Kirkland Fire Department said.
