PHOTO: Fireworks that were launched out of a car window started a brush fire in West Valley on Wednesday, according to West Valley Fire and Rescue. Firefighters say the car was driving past a dry field when the fireworks were set off. They say it has been a few years since a series of brush fires were started by kids shooting off bottle rockets from their cars.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Residents who were evacuated due to a brush fire in Mason County were able to return to their homes Wednesday afternoon. The McEwan Fire is burning about four miles northeast of the town of Shelton, according to Central Mason Fire and EMS. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said the fire had burned an estimated 257 acres and was still 0% contained as of Wednesday evening.

The Spokane Fire Department responded to a garage and house fire at the same location Wednesday afternoon, both being caused by fireworks. Firefighters were dispatched to 2323 W. College Ave. at 1 p.m. for a reported detached garage fire. Crews noticed some vegetation around the garage burning, which was quickly extinguished before it could spread further.
