Preparations are underway in Thurston County as wildfire season starts to ramp up.
It’s in response to the Bordeaux Community Fire and Scatter Creek Fire that hit the region in recent years, prompting residents to be proactive for the 2023 season.
A few weeks ago, the Washington Department of Natural Resources announced it was expanding its Wildfire Ready Neighbors program to include Pierce, Mason and Thurston counties.

A 36-year-old man was arrested last week after officials say he started a fire at a pump at a Port Orchard gas station, according to court documents. An employee at the 76 station on Bay Street was able to put out the fire using fire extinguishers.
Two days after the fire, the man was arrested, and prosecutors charged him with a count of second-degree arson in Kitsap County Superior Court on Monday.

An intense fire broke out at Disneyland in Anaheim on Saturday night as packed crowds were enjoying a show at the theme park.

An area fire department and school district are giving retired fire hoses a second chance to save lives by repurposing the hoses into door sleeves at Northridge Local Schools.
Northridge Local School District Safety Director Officer Clint Ball approached the Harrison Township Fire Department and asked department could make sleeves used to secure district doors.

VIDEO: A South Carolina bill that’s making its way through the Senate could change what firefighters receive as a cancer health care benefit plan.
The definition of a firefighter only includes actual residents of South Carolina, but if this change were to pass, non-South Carolina residents who work in the state could also receive these benefits.
