At 10 a.m. on Monday, South Zanesville Fire Chief Russell Taylor met with engineers at the Owens-Illinois glass plant on State Street to discuss the possibility of a tank rupture. A few hours later, the bottom of a tank ruptured. "Basically like a volcano," Taylor said. Three hundred thousand tons of molten glass spilled into the facility, he said.

Work has stopped on part of the Highway 99 Tunnel project after a worker fell 15 feet from a scaffold over the weekend, according to Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP). It happened early Saturday in the south portal of the tunnel. STP said the worker was on a scaffold which tipped over, causing him to fall.

Spokane Valley fire crews responded to a commercial structure fire at Premiere Lumber in Newman Lake on Monday afternoon. It was quickly upgraded to a working fire to allow for more backup units to respond. The fire was reported around 3 p.m. on Kildea Road in Newman Lake. Crews say there were actually two separate fires on the property.
