Tennessee emergency workers endangered by erratic 911 Center system, authorities say

A poorly performing computer program at the Knox County E-911 Center is placing law enforcement officers and firefighters in danger by depriving them of updated information on emergency calls, authorities said Wednesday. The $6.2 million Intergraph Computer Aided Dispatch program went online two years ago and has been problematic ever since.

Vacant Yakima house determined unlivable following fire

A Yakima house is now unlivable after a fire blazed through the back yard and back side of the building. Firefighters went to the house located at the 1400 block of Fairbanks Avenue and found flames coming from all of the windows and a door on the back of the house around 4:07 a.m., June 21. Officials with the Yakima Fire Department (YFD) said piles of refuse in the back yard had also caught fire.

South Deerfield's New Fire Truck a Custom Addition

Before refabrication — completed late last year — the truck was painted in camouflage style and used as a transportation vehicle. After, its red paint sparkles and a 325-gallons-per-minute pump discharges water and foam from a 500-gallon tank.


“It’s really remarkable what happened to this truck. We cut the body right here,” said Deputy Chief Dennis Patterson, pointing to a part of the truck’s bed that steps down to facilitate the water tank.


Patterson said the truck’s primary purpose is to extinguish wild fires, but is also used during inclement weather because of its exceptional off-road capabilities and maneuverability.

Fire damages South Bend Fire Truck at Fire Station

SOUTH BEND - A South Bend Fire Department fire truck caught fire at Station 4 early Wednesday. South Bend fire Capt. Gerard Ellis said the fire at Station 4, 220 N. Olive St., was reported around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. The fire was contained to the interior of Engine 4, Ellis said.

The fire was contained to the interior of Engine 4, Ellis said. There was no fire damage to the station, however, the smell of smoke did fill the building, which was still being ventilated this morning.
