A wildfire that forced hundreds of people from their homes Sunday in the Columbia River Gorge is now 98 percent contained, officials said Monday.
"We knew there was a fire around," said John Belanger of Wishram, Washington. "We didn't know where."
The Horsethief Butte Fire started north of Dallesport, Washington around noon Sunday.

Firefighters are currently battling a 3,000 acre blaze called the Stateline fire in Walla Walla County.
The Walla Walla County Emergency operations center says it activated just before 1 p.m. on Sunday. The fire is burning near Wallula and Port Kelly, where level two evacuation notices have been issued.

"State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan in support of local firefighters working to contain the Horsethief Butte Fire located approximately three miles northeast of Dallesport in Klickitat County. Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources on September 13, 2015, at 3:15 pm at the request of Chief Rhet Howard with the Klickitat County Fire District 6.
