New York firefighter dies after fire response

A volunteer firefighter died Saturday an hour after responding to a commercial structure fire. U.S. Fire Administration reported that firefighter Lawrence Sesso, 40, with the Sayville (N.Y.) Fire Department, suffered a cardiac arrested on his way home from responding to a fire and participating in a fire department parade.

Nespelem rancher loses cattle in North Star fire

The North Star fire burning on the Colville Indian Reservation has grown to 147,000 acres and is only three percent contained. Fire crews reopened Highway 155 on Monday between Nespelem and Omak but delays can still be expected because of the firefighting activity. They have been able to keep homes from burning in the area and they are making sure it does not come any closer to town.

Lightning-sparked Alder Lake Fire continues to grow now 150 acres

The Alder Lake Fire burning west of Elbe has grown to 150 acres as it continues moving east. Steep rugged terrain is making the firefight difficult, and Forest Service officials say the fire could spread to state DNR land. About 60 people are working this wildfire sparked by lightning on August 11.

Thieves steal dash camera from Stevens County fire truck

The Stevens County Sheriff's Office was called in to investigate the theft of a camera from an Arden fire station. The Spokesman Review reports that crews from the all-volunteer fire department saw two men in hoodies running away from a truck parked outside the station early Monday. Fire Chief Joe Paccerelli says the thieves stole a dashboard camera that has footage of crews battling the Marble Valley fire, which has burned more than 3,000 acres northwest of Addy.
