A new firefighting mobilization center is being set up at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane to help fight wildfires in Washington state. The base will be the staging area for 20 large fire engines and 10 water takers and will be run by a team from San Diego, California. A massive complex of blazes that killed three firefighters in north-central Washington state has grown by more than 100 square miles in a day as fierce winds howled across the region, and now President Obama has declared the area a disaster area. Fire spokesman Rick Isaacson said early Friday that the wildfires have grown to just over 252 square miles since Thursday morning.

The Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board presented its case against former Phoenix Fire Captains, Sam Richardson and Fred Andes, during its board meeting. The case stems from a citizen complaint filed by Barbara Sloan, regarding the captains investigation of the 2009 fire at her home in which they concluded was arson.
