A firefighter injured battling a blaze in Twisp has been upgraded from critical to serious condition. A spokeswoman for Harborview Medical Center said Saturday that Daniel Lyon is alert and breathing on his own. He's undergone two successful burn surgeries, and more are planned. He remains in intensive care.

His son, Marty, is a career firefighter with Spokane County Fire District 10. And, not least, is his experience in September 1993.
