The occupants of a home in the West Terrace neighborhood avoided what could have been a more catastrophic fire after placing a precautionary call to emergency services early Friday morning. A fire inside a Lakewood home left a woman dead, West Pierce firefighters said Thursday afternoon. The fire broke out at a home on Dowerdell Lane around 1:30 p.m. Firefighters quickly got the fire under control but discovered the victim inside. The victim is only described as an adult woman. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two people escaped from a large house fire near Selah on Wednesday night. The home was a total loss. The Selah Fire Department responded to the 1000 block of Gore Road near Humann Lane at about 10:40 p.m. for a report that a home was fully involved in flames. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that at least 80% of the home was already destroyed.
