Fire damages St. Bernadette Catholic School in south Seattle

A school in south Seattle had to cancel some classes after someone allegedly set fire to one of their buildings. St. Bernadette Catholic School on SW 128th Street in White Center released a statement Thursday, saying a fire caused major damage to their primary building, which houses the pre-school to third-grade classrooms.

Spokane County: Unknown gas leaking from truck on I-90 near Idaho border

The unknown gas leaking from a semi-truck on I-90 near Stateline on Thursday has been identified as Econobrite, an industrial aluminum cleaner. The main ingredients in Econobrite are Hydrosulfuric Acid and Hydrofluoric Acid. A Hazmat team was able to trace the leak to one of two separate 250-gallon totes.

Washington National Guard Member Makes an Impact as Volunteer Firefighter

A service member is often born with a strong desire to help others. Whether it’s coaching a child’s baseball or soccer team, cleaning up their neighborhood or giving a hand-up during the holidays, public service is frequently a common trait of those serving in the military. For Sgt. 1st Class Nick Van Kirk, a logistics and decontamination non-commissioned officer with the 10th Civil Support Team, he wanted to give back to his community in a different way.

Okanogan County and Cities Kick Off Project to Update Hazard Mitigation Plan

Okanogan County is beginning the process of updating its Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan examines the risks posed by the natural hazards that affect Okanogan County, and its communities, and develops strategies to reduce the impacts from those hazards. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires counties to update this plan every five years to remain eligible for federal funding for hazard mitigation projects.

2020 calendar highlights 80-year history of Spokane Valley Fire Department

The Spokane Valley Fire Department has put out a 2020 calendar full of historical photos and facts in honor of its 80th anniversary. Capt. Scott Crawford took the lead on putting the project together. “I’ve been here 25 years,” he said. “You hear stories, and you tuck them away. It was a lot of fun to make.
