Washington Department of Ecology will collect and incinerate toxic firefighting foam

The Washington Department of Ecology announced Monday it will begin collecting and incinerating stockpiles of a toxic fire retardant foam that was used by fire departments for decades before the state restricted its use in 2018. The same type of foam was long used at Fairchild Air Force Base and blamed for contaminating West Plains water supplies, including the city of Airway Heights' tap system.

The Spanaway Food Bank has helped people in need for decades, but its future is uncertain after a fire badly damaged the building on Friday morning. Firefighters say the food bank lost everything in the fire and the building is closed indefinitely.

Follow-up: Video shows arsonist made several attempts before setting Seattle club ablaze

A man set a nightclub on fire in Pioneer Square and surveillance cameras recorded his every move. Police are now using that footage in the hopes of tracking him down. The man appeared to be camping in front of Trinity on Occidental Ave. S when he started burning something against an outside wall. Once he started the fire he can be seen actually using his shirt to fan the flames to spread.

Buildings evacuated after natural gas leak in Seattle's University District

Buildings in Seattle’s University District are being evacuated as crews respond to a natural gas leak at a construction site. The gas leak began around 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of 45th Street and Brooklyn Ave NE — just a few blocks west of the University of Washington campus. KIRO 7 TV’s Alison Grande reports that nearby UW Tower has been evacuated.

Benton County firefighters respond to fire at farm in Horse Heaven area

Benton County firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that broke out in the Horse Heaven Hills area on Monday morning. The fire is burning on the Hartley Farms property, and according to Benton County District #5 Fire Chief George Moon, firefighters have the situation under control.
