VIDEO: The 2024-2025 Tennessee Teacher of the Year has been crowned: Bryan Kerns of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport City Schools.
Kerns has spent 17 years of a 20-year teaching career as an Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 teacher at Dobyns-Bennett High School. However, Kerns also holds a unique position — fire management instructor.

VIDEO: Over 75 million Americans are being urged to take proper precautions as temperatures could top 100 degrees in parts of the Midwest on Tuesday.
The extreme heat comes as a new report published in JAMA shows that heat-related deaths have risen significantly in the U.S. in recent years. The report, which was compiled using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, showed there were 21,518 fatalities from 1999-2023 citing heat as the underlying or contributing cause of death.

Firefighters battling the Road 2620 Fire in Brinnon appear to be getting the upper hand on the flames.
According to the Western Washington Incident Management Team, the fire is now 81% contained.
Duckabash Road is back open, but Mt. Jupiter Road remains closed to the general public.
All evacuation levels have been rescinded.

The remote town of Stehekin, Washington has reopened to visitors after weekend rainfall helped firefighters make progress containing the Pioneer Fire.
The Pioneer Fire has burned 38,735 along the northern end of Lake Chelan, 31 miles northwest of Chelan, and is currently 23% contained. Earlier in August, high winds spread the fire and forced evacuations in Stehekin.
