Construction worker hits natural gas line, homes evacuated in Richland

Richland Firefighters responded to a cut natural gas line in the Horn Rapids neighborhood just before 8 a.m. Monday. Battalion Chief Duncan told NBC Right Now 12 homes were evacuated during the process. Cascade Natural Gas had the line shut off within an hour of the initial call. Early reports indicate a construction worker hit a gas line while working in the area of Eagle Watch Loop and Sandpiper Road.

South Whidbey Fire/EMS hires first female deputy chief

For the first time in its history, South Whidbey Fire/EMS has a female deputy chief. Wendy Moffatt, former EMS division chief, was officially promoted to deputy chief — one rank below chief — at the fire district’s monthly meeting on Thursday. In a short ceremony, district Commissioner Kenon Simmons took her old badge and presented her with a new one.

East Pierce Fire captain dies in dirt bike crash

A firefighter with East Pierce Fire and Rescue died Saturday in a dirt bike crash. The man, Capt. Tim McCoy, was a longtime firefighter. He was taken to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries and later died there. McCoy, 59, joined the Bonney Lake Fire Department around 30 years ago. The department became part of East Pierce Fire and Rescue in 2000, officials said.

Update: Body of missing King County firefighter found in Grant County

A body recovered Saturday in western Grant County was identified as the King County firefighter missing since last Saturday, authorities said. There were no signs of foul play, sheriff’s deputies said. Ken Ward, 43, was last seen October 15 in Roslyn, Wash. Dozens of people joined the statewide search.

Cowlitz County police, fire agencies want to use Vancouver's 911 center

Local police and fire officials say the answer to the county’s trouble with the emergency dispatch system may lie in Clark County’s 911 center. On Oct. 9, local police and fire chiefs asked the Cowlitz Comm Center’s governing board to study consolidating with the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency, known as CRESA.
