Lynnwood Fire, Snohomish County Fire District 1 considering merger

New merger talks involving the Lynnwood Fire Department and Snohomish County Fire District 1 are starting Monday. The city and the fire district are exploring the possibility of forming a regional fire authority, a new government body that would levy its own taxes to provide fire protection and emergency medical services.

Three-year-old boy, dog die in Spokane house fire

A 3-year-old boy who died in a fire late Friday night in Hillyard was found huddled with his dog, who stayed by his side, and a teddy bear. “They died together,” said Spokane Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer. Firefighters tackle fire at Brownes Addition apartment building in Spokane

A ground floor fire in a Browne’s Addition apartment building led to a big response Friday morning. Spokane firefighters responded to a fire at the Greentree Apartments at 1919 W Pacific Ave around 9 a.m. Neighbors said they saw smoke and flames coming from the apartment building. Firefighters evacuated residents and cut a hole in the side of the building to go after the fire.

Blaze rips through Montlake home, firefighter taken to hospital

A firefighter was taken to Harborview Medical Center on Thursday night after battling a fire in a two-story home in the Montlake neighborhood. Shata Stephenson, a Seattle Fire Department captain, said the firefighter was evaluated for overexertion in a hot environment. “He left in pretty good shape,” he said.

Man and dog escape as flames destroy Federal Way home; heater blamed

A man was able to escape with his life as flames destroyed one home and damaged an adjacent one early Friday in Federal Way. Crews responded to the scene, in the 1600 block of South 333rd Street, at around 3 a.m. after receiving reports that a fire had broken out at the home. When they arrived, the home was completely engulfed in flames.
