Grants, Levy Lid-lift Increase Staffing for Chelan and Douglas Counties

The future of firefighting in Chelan and Douglas counties is looking brighter this fall, thanks to two federal grants and one levy lid-lift. By January, 13 more full-time professional firefighters will be on duty in Wenatchee and Chelan, it was announced Friday. Their salaries will be paid for two years by federal grants awarded late this summer.

Cowlitz Co. fire destroys building, 3 vehicles

A Washington fire destroyed a building and 3 cars that were nearby on Monday morning. The Cowlitz County fire took place in the 100 block of Spruce Creek Road at 12:26 a.m., according to fire officials. By the time fire crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed. The estimated loss from the fire was $48,000, and the cause is still under investigation, officials said.

Seattle officials uncover possible pot operation after home burns in Beacon Hill

Seattle Fire officials are investigating after an early morning fire in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood. Firefighters arrived on scene to find the home engulfed in flames. The house was two-stories and had a basement, fire officials said. Firefighters say that when they arrived, the fire had spread to all three floors.

Eglon club wants property back from North Kitsap Fire and Rescue

The Eglon Improvement Club appears poised to reclaim a piece of property it gave away in the 1960s. The half-acre parcel along Eglon Road is currently owned by North Kitsap Fire and Rescue, and is the site of a small building that was used as a fire station until 2012. Eglon is located on the eastern shore of the Kitsap peninsula, about halfway between Kingston and Hansville.

Body discovered in Kennewick car fire

The Kennewick Police Department is investigating a body found in a burning vehicle at Columbia Park around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Officials say the call came in from drivers on highway spotting smoke from a small dodge truck near the pond at Columbia Park. When firefighters arrived, they quickly put out the fire and a body was discovered inside the vehicle.
