Mom of missing King County firefighter: 'He can come home and be safe'

Off-duty firefighters are searching on both sides of the Cascades looking for Ken Ward. He is a fellow firefighter who has been missing since Oct. 16. Ward has been a firefighter at Mountain View King County Fire District #44 for 10 years and always shows up for work. When he didn't show up Monday, fellow firefighters and his family knew something was wrong.

Fire closes Hill's Restaurant in Kennewick

Hill’s Restaurant is closed after a fire damaged the well-known Kennewick restaurant on Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called to 24 Vista Way around midnight after reports of people seeing flames and smoke in the dining area. The cause has not been determined, but fire crews saw most of the fire around a deep fryer in the kitchen, said Kennewick Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Crowley.

Fire, emergency medical service levies before voters in Snohomish County

Some Snohomish County cities plan to introduce revised fire and emergency medical service levies on the November ballot. Two levies are slated for a slight increase, while one will remain the same. Levies are the primary source of revenue for fire departments. Mill Creek proposed an increase of the EMS levy, which is set to expire after six years, city spokeswoman Kelly Chelin said.

Update: Federal judge dismisses Ride the Ducks suit

The parents of one of the student victims of the September 2015 Aurora Bridge crash lost a round in federal court as they tried to hold the sightseeing company accountable for their emotional distress suffered over the death of their daughter. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Zilly ruled that as per Washington state law, parents cannot recover these kinds of damages if the parents didn’t rely on the child for support.

Missing King County firefighter last seen in Roslyn

A missing Western Washington firefighter was last seen in Roslyn, authorities say. Ken Ward, 43, has not been seen since Saturday, when he may have visited acquaintances in the Kittitas County town, said Tim Perciful, a spokesman for Auburn-based Mountain View Fire and Rescue. Ward apparently mentioned that he would be traveling to Spokane, but his current whereabouts are unknown.
