FASNY sounds alarm as New York leads in fire deaths

A recent house fire in the Capital Region added four more people to the state’s residential fire death toll for 2023. According to a press release from the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY), in 2017, 2018, and 2019, New York led the nation in fire deaths. The state is presently on track for the same mention in 2023.

Firefighters contain 2 brush fires in Ritzville

VIDEOS: Firefighters overcame hot and windy conditions to get a pair of brush fires under control on Monday in Ritzville. While neither fire forced any evacuation orders, the second, much larger fire burned about 250 acres and destroy a few abandoned buildings near I-90, according to Adams County Fire District 1 Chief Scott Kembel.

Fire Danger Elevated In Unincorporated Areas Of Chelan County

The fire danger rating in unincorporated areas of Chelan County is now elevated. County Fire Marshal Stephen Rinaldi raised the level after meeting with State and Federal partners. The Chelan County Mountain zone now has a HIGH fire danger rating while the Valley zone has a VERY HIGH rating. Activity restrictions are now at Stage 1 which places restrictions on open flame devices.

VIDEO: 5 California homes burn while fire crews work to extinguish in triple-digit heat

The Woodland Fire Department is investigating a structure fire that spread to five homes and an outbuilding on Saturday near Lincoln Avenue and Elm Street. It is still unknown what caused the fire but the department said that responders were able to contain it to the homes of origin and prevent the flames from spreading.

Over 50 Arizona fire stations replaced cancer-causing foam

VIDEO: State officials have expanded their efforts to protect the health of firefighters. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has been replacing the foam used on some fires, which has been linked to cancer. They just wrapped up a 6-month effort with better results than expected. It’s called the Take Back and Replace Program.
