Picture this. There's a fire coming up the canyon toward your home. Yakima County Emergency Management issues an evacuation order and you have to collect clothes, important documents and keepsakes and leave your home.
In one of the many rural parts of Yakima County, that evacuation may not just include people and their valuables, but a few, a dozen or even hundreds of animals.

During Monday night’s Chehalis City Council meeting, four firefighters who began working for the Chehalis Fire Department during the COVID-19 pandemic were officially sworn in. The four firefighters were Daniel Ford, Pat Glover, Shane Schow and Adam Miller.
Following their swearing-in ceremony, retired Chehalis Fire Captain Steve Emrich was honored by the city.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Evacuation orders in Lakewood have been lifted following a fast-moving brush fire in Fort Steilacoom Park Wednesday afternoon.
The 3-alarm brush fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m. burning in Fort Steilacoom Park near Pierce College.
West Pierce Fire and Rescue crews responded to fight the fire.

Partnering with UC San Diego, DigitalPath, AlertWest, and Wenatchee based Localtel Communications, Lake Wenatchee Fire & Rescue deployed two wildfire detection cameras this week near Nason Creek and Lake Wenatchee.
The Pan-Tilt-Zoom Cameras are mounted in strategic locations to monitor and detect wildfires.

Dry conditions, high trees and strong winds in the midst of small brush fires all played a part in the destruction in Lahaina. It's a reminder of just how fast a small fire can spread.
Nick Jeffries is in his first year as Spokane Fire's wildland resource planner. His job is to prevent a similar disaster from happening in Spokane.
