PHOTOS: A longtime captain with the Nashville Fire Department is going above and beyond the call of duty.
Captain Tony Murrell has dedicated 19 years to serving the Nashville community, but his mission goes further than that. In 2020, Murrell donated his kidney to his sister after watching her endure nightly dialysis treatments for two long years.

Being a firefighter was not on Sarah Pernick’s childhood list of aspirations. Before becoming the first female fire captain in Bellingham, she was a self-described “ski bum.” Pernick enjoyed the outdoors, worked as a river guide in her 20s and eventually opened a whitewater rafting business with her brother.

In an effort to combat the high number of fall-related injuries among residents, the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) has partnered with SNAP to strengthen their Enhanced Safety Visit Program. Thanks to a recent $18,000 grant from State Farm, the program will strive to reduce the occurrence of falls within the community.

During Tuesday's Seattle City Council’s public safety committee meeting, members were given an update on the city's "dual dispatch" program, which would deploy mental health providers with officers to certain 911 calls.
The program would staff six behavioral health experts to work with Seattle police officers when mental health expertise is needed and the situation is deemed safe for non-police intervention.

VIDEO: A building on the campus of a southeast Charlotte prep school was destroyed by a three-alarm fire Monday night, officials said.
Charlotte firefighters responded to a fire at Charlotte Preparatory School on Boyce Road a little before 11 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.
